MANAGER: DACE VILNE

LESSONS: MONDAYS, THURSDAYS 15.00 – 19.00

The Ādolfs Alunāns Jelgava Theater was founded in 1959, but it has been active in this field much earlier. In 1959, the dramatic collective of theater enthusiasts won the first place in the theater show of the republic with the play "Jo pliks, jo traks" by Jānis Jaunānāns Jelgava People's Theater.

"The Jelgava People's Theater is one of the rare ones in the republic, where the excitement of work has never stopped since its foundation." (Viktors Hausmanis, Literature and Theater Scholar)

At least three new plays are staged in the theater every year. Acting, speech and other basic principles of stage art are also learned at the youth studio of the Ādolfs Alunāns Jelgava theater, the 5th secondary school theater studio "Chaika" (in Russian), as well as the children's studio.

The theater's repertoire includes such shows as: Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš's comedy "Jo pliks yo traks", Rūdolf Blaumaņš's "Skroderdienas Silmačos", Mārtiņa Zīvert "Kurrpurrū", Voldemārs Sauleskalns' "Meldermeitiņa", Frederick Law's musical "My Beautiful Lady", Tennessee Williams "Summer and smoke" by Aleksandra Dimas (son), "Lady of Camellias", "Corridor" by Aiva Birbele, "Pijamas for six" by Mark Camoleti, as well as performances for children "Cinderella" by Tamara Gabbes, "Musicians of Bremen" and other.
