The class from Stelpe elementary school wins the ice sculpture festival collage competition

24. January, 2020.

This year, 91 applications from all over Latvia were received in the collage competition of the International Ice Sculpture Festival. By creatively interpreting the theme "My superheroes", the 1st and 3rd grade of Stelpe Elementary School, Vecumnieku district, who portray mom and dad as superheroes in their work, were chosen as the winners of the competition.

This year, the collage competition received applications from Limbazi, Īslīce, Riga, Jelgava, Salaspils, Jēkabpils, Dobele, Ludza and other Latvian cities. It was not easy for the jury commission of the authors of the most relevant and interesting work to choose the topic. The children interpreted the theme of the contest in different ways, for some it was their favorite characters from Hollywood movies, while others saw superpowers among the heroes of our own folk tales and in history books. The jury especially appreciated the fact that the children approached the topic philosophically, looking for superheroes also among fellow human beings.

After intensive discussions, Stelpe Elementary School was chosen as the winner with a combined application from 1st and 3rd grade, which will receive invitations and fully paid transportation services to get to 22nd International Ice Sculpture Festival in Jelgava. The collage competition will also take place in Lithuania, where the 25 most appropriate collage authors will receive the opportunity to visit the most ambitious winter event in the Baltics.

Transport to Jelgava for the authors of the best works is provided by SIA "FORTUM Jelgava" and SIA "RC BŪVNIEKS". It will be possible to view the submitted collage contest works at the Jelgava House of Culture, in the foyer of the 2nd floor, from February 1 to 29.

The ice sculpture festival in Jelgava takes place from February 7 to 9! More than 60 works of ice art, demonstration duels, pyrotechnics and light shows, as well as a wide cultural program together with Latvian superstars.
