Folklore ensemble "Dimzēns" invites participants of all ages who enjoy singing, dancing and making music.

Folklore ensemble "Dimzēns" unites people who are close to Zemgale region folk songs, dances, games, making music for their own and others' pleasure. 

Together with large and small audiences in preschools and schools, traditional customs of the seasons are sung, danced and learned. The intangible cultural heritage of the Zemgale region is accumulated in the dowry of "Dimzēna". They are both songs for marriages, weddings, weddings, and annual customs. Around 40 members of different ages perform in folklore. The youngest are 2 years old, and the oldest couple are over 75.

 

  • Since 1994, "Dimzēns" has participated in all international folklore festivals "Baltica" in Latvia, as well as visited Estonia and Lithuania. 2003 was an important year in the collective's life, because it received the Great Folklore Award of the Year, "Folklore Group of the Year".
  • In 2005, the song and dance material collected by "Dimzēns" was released in CD format "Zemgale songs sung by "Dimzēns".
  • In 2006 -CD "Maras year in Zemgale" (songs from different places of Zemgale allow us to track the seasons.)
  • In 2010, the CD "Zemgale wedding songs" will be released.
  • In 2015, the folklore group participated in the "Baltica" festival, the school youth song and dance festival, the 750th anniversary events of Jelgava, as well as the international musicians' festival in Šiauliai and the children's folklore festival "Baltu rasti" in Kaunas.

The children and young people of the "Dimzēns" group participate in the "Pulka eimu, pulka teku" traditional singing competition, events and festivals every year. Together with folklore ensembles from Zemgale and guests, "Dimzēns" invites Jelgav residents to celebrate the Summer Solstice on the island of the palace.

For 10 years now, the folklore group "Dimzēns" has been united by friendship with the Swedish dance group "Obackaringen" from Harnesand. Joint holidays are celebrated both in Latvia and Sweden. There is also long-term cooperation with the organizers of the LLU Summer School, which gathers young people from different countries of the world.
