Construction of the sand sculpture park begins on Posta Island
7. June, 2021.
From June 2nd, the creation of sand art has started in the sand sculpture park on the Pasta Island, in order to show the achievements of Latvians in the world in 12 works. The artistic process will continue until the opening of the park on June 19, as well as after, allowing visitors to see the creation of the works.
Also this year, the author and leader of the park's artistic concept is the titled sculptor Kārlis Īle, who together with six artists from Latvia will create an amazing world of sand art in Jelgava. Kārlis and Maija Īles are the first artists who started work on the creation of the sand park, in order to create the highest demo sculpture to date - Kristaps Porziņgis, more than 7 meters high, represented in the sand. Works will also be created by Agnese Rudzīte-Kirilova, Sanita Rāviņa, Zīle Ozoliņa-Šneidere, as well as Tautvilas Pavilonis and Martinas Gaubas from Lithuania.
Specially honoring the significant achievements of Latvians, this year in the park we will meet such legends and inventions in one place as the "Minox" camera created by Walter Cap, the prototype of Crocodile Dundee Arvīdas Blumenthals, the "Porsche" created by Anatol Lapiņš, the creator of portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Dali and Albert Einstein Filipa Halsman, the first woman , who traveled the world by bicycle, Anna Kopčovska, the world's first hologram created by Jura Upatnieks, Mark Rothko, the owner of the tobacco pipe construction patent, Kārlis Pētersons, and others. In addition to the historical events not included in the sculptures, the park area will be supplemented with various tablets and photo objects that will tell about the achievements of Latvians in the world.
