Laureates of the International Sand Sculpture Festival "SUMMER SIGNS" were awarded
10. June, 2023.
Already tomorrow, June 10, the largest sand sculpture park in the Baltics will be opened on the island of Pasta in Jelgava, where you will be able to appreciate world music hits rendered in sand art by 17 sculptors from 9 countries. On the opening days of the festival - concerts by popular musicians in Latvia and a wide program for families with children.
This year the festival gathers sculptors from Indonesia, USA, Mongolia, Spain, Netherlands, Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. The theme of the festival "World Hits" inspired them to express in sand art such world-famous songs as "Hotel California", "Somewhere over the rainbow", "No Woman No Cry", "Take On Me" and others, visualizing the feelings that good brings to us all known songs. The most ambitious work of art in the Sand Sculpture Park is usually the demo sculpture, which was created by Latvian sculptors Kārlis and Maija Īles. They were inspired by the composition "Yellow Submarine" performed by the group "The Beatles". "The song 'Yellow Submarine', performed by the band's drummer Ringo Starr, became one of the most popular compositions of The Betales. It was written as a children's song with simple lyrics, bright colorful images and a dynamic melody, bringing joy to both children and adults," this is how the sculptors describe the chosen composition.
The international sand sculpture festival in Jelgava is organized by the city of Jelgava and the institution "Kultūra" in cooperation with our great friend AS "Ramirent Baltic".
