Winners of the 20th International Sand sculpture festival announced

May 22, 2026

On May 22, the winners of the 20th International Sand Sculpture Festival “Sand Signs 2026” were honored. This year, 15 professional sculptors from 10 countries—Turkey, the U.S., Ukraine, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands, Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia—participated in the competition, bringing stories from the Jurassic period to life in sand. In addition to the competition entries, the sand sculpture park also features this year’s most ambitious work — the demo sculpture “Dinosaur Gathering,” created by sculptor Agnese Rudzīte-Kirillova from Latvia and sculptor Roger Feralla from Spain, as well as the park’s entrance sculpture “Volcano,” created by sculptor Sanita Rāviņa from Latvia. Festival-goers will be able to view the sand sculptures as early as Saturday, May 23, when Pasta Island will become a venue where art, entertainment, and music come together throughout the day. The day’s program includes activities for families with children, puppet shows, foam parties, creative workshops, large-scale games, and improvisational theater performances.

In the evening, the “Mītava” open-air concert hall will host the season-opening concert, featuring performances by the band “Kautkaili”, Samanta Tīna, the band “Pienvedēja Piedzīvojumi,” and Fiņķis, offering a diverse musical program for all tastes until 2:00 a.m.

Tickets are available at “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices and online. A one-day festival ticket will allow visitors to freely leave the premises and return, offering the opportunity to combine a visit to the sand sculpture festival with Museum Night events on the same day and conclude the evening with a concert program at the “Mītava” open-air concert hall.

To make it easier to get to the event, additional parking spaces will be available to visitors; their locations can be found on the Waze app.

The event is organized by the City of Jelgava and the “Kultūra” institution, with support from AS Ramirent Baltic.
