The fourth day of the 16th International Sand Sculpture Competition is passing in Jelgava

2. June, 2022.

In Jelgava, on the island of Post, 17 professional sculptors from 10 countries - the Czech Republic, Spain, Ukraine, Canada, Turkey, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia - reproduce world masterpieces in their unique interpretation in the sand.

The sculptors started creating the demo sculpture last week, but this week they were joined by 15 other sculptors to create the competition pieces. The artists will continue to create large-scale sand sculptures until Friday at 1 p.m., when they will be submitted for judging.

The divine proportion or the golden ratio, the interpretation of Pablo Picasso's painting "Guernica", modern technologies - all these are masterpieces created by man, nature or the universe, which take your breath away for a moment. This is exactly the feeling of admiration, surprise and inspiration that this year's Sand Sculpture Park artists will create - giving visitors the opportunity to get to know outstanding achievements, masterpieces and masterpieces.

For example, Mongolian sculptor Munkh-Erdene Tsagaan says about his competition work: “This time I reproduced a classical sculpture from the 15th century, to which I added elements of the digital age. Thus combining a well-known and classic image with digitization elements - small pixels, NFT, crypto coins".

As previously reported, the sand sculpture park will be open to visitors on June 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. On both days, Post Island will also host various activities for children, including bubble workshops, foam parties and attractions. Vinyl DJ Mareks Ameriks will take care of the musical atmosphere on the Post island on both days. On Saturday, June 4, Riga Reggae will perform at 7 p.m., and Edavārdi at 9 p.m. On Sunday, June 5, at 8 p.m., visitors will be entertained by Ivo Fomins.
